Pay your bill where you shop using PayGo-VanillaDirect

Pitt & Greene EMC has added another option for paying your bill using PayGo through VanillaDirect. This is a Cash Only payment application giving our members the opportunity to pay their bill using a Checkout barcode and cash. The consumer’s barcode is located on the back of their bill and can also be located by visiting https://pgemc.meridiancheckout.com. To make a payment using PayGo-VanillaDirect the member must have the barcode and cash when visiting a participating local retailer. The cashier at the retailer scans the consumer’s barcode and accepts their cash payment. Payment is updated in real time at Pitt & Greene EMC, and the consumer is provided with a receipt. The retailer cannot see what is owed on an account.

While the consumer can make multiple payments on various accounts they must have downloaded or printed the barcode for each of the accounts and know what they wish to pay.

The barcode is proprietary to the Checkout application and contains the information needed to identify both the individual member account the consumer is paying and the utility within the Checkout network.

A fee of $1.50 per transaction is charged to the consumer at the retail location.

The current retailers participating in the program accept both paper and digital forms of the required barcode, but it is possible for an individual retailer or even a new retailer to have legacy scanning equipment that can only accept printed barcodes. In this case the customer would need to provide a printed copy. The acceptance method is specified on the map of Checkout retailers that you can find by visiting https://pgemc.meridiancheckout.com.
